Hall of Fame Huddle: Diamonds and Weather Team Up Against Racers

Over an hour of delays cleared the stadium out and ruined any chance of either team catching a groove. Nicole Trimboli started off the scoring when she hit a 2-run blast in the 2nd inning. The Racers bats went cold after that, getting only 1 hit between the 3rd and 7th innings. In the 3rd Kelsi Weseman took Hillary Bach deep a few minutes before the first lightning delay. Hillary came back strong after the delay and pitched 3.2 scoreless innings. After the game I caught up with Hillary and asked how she stayed focused through the delay after giving up the big homer and being able to pitch stronger afterword. "You know I've seen these batters 100 times so I want to use that to my advantage. I let the rain get to my head and as a pitcher mental toughness is one of the most important things. So during the delay I was just making sure I stayed focused on throwing each pitch the best I can, allowing my defense to help me out and not try to do it all on my own."
Brianna Hesson ended the drought at the plate in the 7th when she homered and drove in Alicia Herron. It proved to be too little too late after Amanda Kamekona hit a 2-run shot in the top half of the 7th. Trimboli and Hesson both provided a pair of RBI's and two of the Racers 3 hits with their home runs, the other hit was a Lisa Modglin single. Bach ended of putting in 6.1 innings, giving up 5 runs on 9 hits and striking out 5.
For the Diamonds Kelsi Weseman went 2 for 3 with 3 RBI's and 2 runs scored. Amanda Kamekona went 2 for 4 with a pair of RBI's. GiOnna DiSalvatore threw in a couple hits and Jami Lobpries added an RBI. The game was delayed for a second time in the 7th because of lightning. After the second delay Thor gave up a 2-run homer, one of which was charged to Bach. Morgan Melloh made her first appearance for the Diamonds this season and went all 7 innings giving up 4 runs on 3 hits, striking out 9 and walking only 1.
