And Now Your Starting Line-Up!

Welcome to the Boy Meets (Sports) Blog! Here's a brief introduction of the two of us who will be contributing to the Blog:

Andy: I am a huge sports fan in general. I tend to follow pro-sports more closely than college. My passion is for Cleveland Sports; Browns, Indians, and Cavs. (1964--- I know). Although I follow pro sports more closely, I am still a huge fan of THE Ohio State University. I grew up playing baseball in high school and rec league basketball. I despise Michigan, the Pittsburgh Steelers, New York Yankees, and now the Miami Heat. I am also huge into Fantasy Sports, I'm as competitive as they come!

Rich: First of all baseball is boring, I am a White Sox fan and I really get tired of living around so many unrealistically optimistic Indians fans. Ive spent my life idolizing Allen Iverson, literally...I've been lost since he's been gone. I know consider myself a Cavs fan because I am annoyed by LeBron, I'm glad he's gone. The real player in the league is Kobe, he is unstoppable and the best player in the league right now. I live and breathe Cleveland Browns football, that's all that needs to be said. I've grown up a Seminoles fan and I love Bobby Bowden but I'm an overall Buckeyes fan. I coach high school girls basketball so basketball is my passion...oh and I love Sammy Prahalis OSU womens basketball playmaker!

Oh you know I am ready for Thursday, it is better then Christmas.
The Cleveland Browns are on the clock, (Gruden, Berman start to argue over who we will go with). "With the 6th pick in the 2011 NFL DRAFT, the Cleveland Browns select **AJ GREEN**. (APPLAUDS/CHEERS)-I can see it :) fingers crossed!! I'm sorry I get that going with the best pick is important to everyone, but if you havent noticed are dyer need for a WR then you haven't spent a sunday in front of the television frustrated over the Brown and Orange. This mumble jumble about a great WR we can pick up later in the draft, or through free agency-anddd umm where has that got us as of recently?..Thats what I thought. Peterson is the safest pick, I get it but where has playing it safe ever got us? Robert Quinn would be a good choice as well but still skeptical. Green he can translate to just about any offense, excellent route runner, he takes hits in traffic and doesnt give up the ball-something we arent a custom to. I guess we will see what happends.

Every time Draft time comes around I get excited. Its basically the best holiday.. With this years draft I would like the browns to concentrate on 3 areas..First one being the Wide Receiver position. That means taking A.J Green..The guy is probably the best Wr to come out since Calvin Johnson. He put up insane numbers even though he was suspended for the first 4 games. If he isnt there that takes me to the D Line. since we are switching to a 4 3 the only lineman we have is rubin. So I want he browns the to draft Marcell Dareus. He is versatile, he can play both DT and DE. For being as big as he is, he can also chase down QBs. If both of those players are gone my vote is Patrick Peterson. He fits into my last area of need.. He is fast and is great in run support..He shut down the WR in the SEC.. ( let it be noted I hate the SEC).. They always have talented WRs and he shut them down weekly.. Not to mention he is a great return man.. Any picks we make I will be happy with. Because for the first time since we've been back we have president and an gm who are both proven and have a great track record.. HERE WE GO BROWNIES HERE WE GO

I think the Browns are so deficient in talent after the Mangini debacle that they really need to trade down and acquire extra picks if possible. The taking of a WR at the 6th pick no matter how good he is just makes me cringe. When I look at guys like Mike Wallace, Marques Colston, etc I know you don't have to waste a high pick to find a good WR. The biggest need is on D-Line as mentioned above but most of the high rated guys who will be available at 6 come with question marks (injury, suspension, etc). Peterson is a great player but do you really draft another secondary guy this high 2 years in a row? With the NFL changing the kickoff rules his return skills become less of a positive. If they can set up a trade if one of the QB's or if Peterson is still around they can drop back in the round and still pick up a pretty good player while adding more picks to address their many, many pressing needs. It is nice that they finally have a group of coaches and front office guys that have a clue for a change.
