Red Hot Red Claws snap Charge win streak 103-81

It didn't take long before it was obvious it wasn't the Charge's night at The Civic Center Saturday in front of 3,454 hometown fans. The first quarter was very competitive, you couldn't tell that the Charge had just arrived home after playing in Erie the night before and were playing in their third game in four days. They were doing all the things that have been hampering them pretty well through 12 minutes. Rebounding was pretty even, they were 7-11 from the line while only giving up one free throw attempt on the Maine end. The second quarter abruptly began a downward spiral. “With most shooters, I think they hit a couple early and their confidence was up.", explains Coach Jensen, "That’s always a dangerous thing, especially in the situation where a couple of those guys hit a couple early ones and then your confidence is up and then it’s possibly a long night.” A long night it was, more specifically a long quarter. The Charge were outscored 32-13 in the second, including an 18-3 run to start the quarter. Coach Jensen called a timeout to try to stop the bleeding but was unsuccessful when Maine hit their fourth three-ball of the quarter right after the timeout. Campbell, who finished with 6 points and 6 assists, ended the run with a layup at the 7:22 mark. The Red Claws answered with seven straight points to extend the run to 25-5 in the 2nd quarter.
The Civic Center was provided with some much needed uplifting spiritual music and performance of Malone's New Vision Ministry Team, but the inspiration given to te crowd wasn't carried over to the floor. To the Charge's credit they did play tough, and for the most part, pretty even in the 3rd quarter. However they never got closer than 18 in the quarter and went into the 4th down 27. The Charge never backed down and had the lead down to as low as 17 in the final period, but the enormous lead would prove to be too much to tackle. The 34 fourth quarter points was the largest scoring output in any quarter for the Charge this year. After the game Coach Jensen identified free throw shooting(56%), rebounding(-10), giving up a high 3-point % to the opponent(41%) as reasons why they loss tonight. I really appreciate Coach Alex's willingness to take responsibility. When I asked him if losing Biggs and McLeod is having a bigger impact than expected he quickly said no, pointing out that the Charge are the least effected team in the league. "Tonight, we took a step back and starting tomorrow we’ll keep making those things a priority.”
